Brett's Biography
I was born in Albuquerque, N.M. in 1961. The situation there was not too grand. We lived in a small house that was constructed out of pallets and chicken wire. The house was divided into three rooms, one for the kitchen, and the others for living and sleeping quarters. My father slept outside in a camper shell. Our toilet was an outhouse located outside in the backyard. I was being raised with 4 siblings, a twin brother, two older brothers and one older sister.
For the first three years of my life, I was kept in a small room secluded from everybody else, having a mattress as a barrier, while the rest of my siblings functioned normally. At the age of three, my natural family gave me up for adoption. I remember being in the backseat of the caseworkers car, waving goodbye, knowing I would probably never see them again.
I was placed into an institute called Villa Salono, a place where unwanted, mentally challenged children were placed. From age three until age seven, I underwent some serious testing regarding my mental status. It was declared by the New Mexico State Court that I was 100% mentally challenged, indigent and reliant upon the court system.
After this verdict, I was placed into a foster home and resided with a wonderful family named Mr.& Mrs. J.R. Mathews until I turned 18 years of age. I was placed into special education classes because of my special needs. I spoke with a serious stutter, my hand to eye coordination was very poor. If you were to toss a ball to me, my mind would react too late, causing me to grab at thin air after the ball had passed by me. I was constantly mocked, teased and prodded because of my mental disability.
At sixteen years of age I went to a Baptist church worship service one morning, only to discover the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The pastor was preaching one of those hell, hellfire and brimstone sermons. At the end of the service I went forward to talk to the pastor, not knowing what was about to happen to me. He led me in a prayer.
After praying, I began to speak with clarity. I no longer stuttered. I was taken out of special education classes, tested and placed in the seventh grade. This was the first time in my life of being in normal class with normal people.
Needless to say, after I prayed , a whole new world opened up to me. not only could I could speak clearly, my hand to eye coordination became so great that I joined sports and got involved in art. I graduated high school with a 3.5 G.P.A. In fact, I am the only one in my natural family, to complete high school.
Sports
I joined the Junior High track and field team. I was clocked in running a 49 second quarter mile. That is 440 yards in 49 seconds. The varsity coach caught wind of this, and invited me to run track with the big boy's. Now, that was cool! soon after my new found athletic ability, I received a letter from UCLA granting me a scholarship to run track for their team, after I graduated from high school. I ran track for 4 years, and went to state competitions. I won gold and silver metals all four years.
Art
I became interested in art, and entered a state competition. I won second place. I decided to enter a nationwide competition and won. Walt Disney Studio's flew into town, and interviewed me. I was offered a guaranteed job with Walt Disney Studio's, after I graduated from high school and completed a two year course through their program.
A little more about me
At eighteen years old, I left my foster family in pursuit of my natural family, only to be rejected by my natural biological father. It was this rejection that pricked me so much, that I began looking for a way to cover up the pain. I began to get involved in substance abuse, and the occult. It was like I had entered into hell on earth and had no way of escape. After ten long years of pain and internal torment, I rededicated my life to Jesus, and have never been the same since.
